MENTAL
DISCIPLINE
A major concern of our daily life is maintaining
inner peace. Acts of violence only lead to destruction and disaster. Generally,
these acts are carried out by ignorant people who live only for the moment.
Without strong self‑discipline and a vision for tomorrow, man is little
better than an animal. If no prior thought is given to the consequences of our
actions, the act/react chain of response can become a habitual and dangerous way
of living.
We must learn to constantly give thought to our
actions before we act and we must try to develop a consciousness for
proper response, even though it may seem difficult at the time.
Unlike a kicking technique, discipline cannot be
taught in one session. Discipline is learned each day during martial arts
training with proper supervision, both inside and outside the school.
Martial arts dates back to prehistoric times. This
fact is positive proof of the on going worth and validity of martial arts
training. We must continue to develop, always with a vision of tomorrow in our
minds.
